Accident Support Services International Ltd. (ASSI) has focused on road safety and customer service since 1994, when they opened their first centralized Collision Reporting Centre (CRC). The CRC Program minimizes Police involvement in reporting collisions, reducing traffic congestion and the risk of secondary collisions. Manpower and operating cost savings are reallocated to higher priority needs. The immediate result is improved response times and increased road safety. In 2003, ASSI introduced the Microsoft Award winning Collision Reporting & Occurrence Management System (CROMS) which captures all collision details electronically. CROMS can store and transfer scanned documents and pictures, includes Geocode Mapping, and works seamlessly with other systems. Smaller jurisdictions without CRCs use CROMS as their electronic records management system. Police simply scan and forward the on-scene report, and ASSI staff data enter all collision information. The CROMS Analytics Portal and CROMS Mobile complete the product line. All information on a collision report can be analyzed in minutes, determining where enforcement is needed to make roadways safer. CROMS Mobile lets Police complete electronic collision reports at the scene. |

The Davicom MAC Site Monitoring System is designed to meet the requirements of public safety organizations as well as broadcasters and wireless telecommunications' operators. These best-in-class, stand-alone monitoring and control units interface easily with virtually any type of remote site equipment and sensors, therefore ensuring maximum flexibility and expandability. Reliable and comprehensive remote monitoring and control technology is essential for stations with remote transmitter sites. Although having a main street studio and a mountain-top transmitter can help improve both the coverage and public profile of a station, these benefits come at a price. When a problem occurs at the transmitter site, personnel must often travel to the site without knowing the nature of the problem nor which equipment is required. A comprehensive remote monitoring system can define the problem thus saving valuable time. Over the years, new features have been added to maintain the product's position as an industry innovator. From initial VT-100 mode, through the addition of fax & voice, the units have evolved to the present version with SNMP support. Complete compatibility is still maintained with older units. Canada’s police in international peace operations The intensive 12-month experience helps police officers build leadership, problem-solving and organizational skills. They also return with a more global perspective and a greater appreciation for different cultures and backgrounds. This is good for participants, their police service and the communities they serve. For more than 20 years, the RCMP has managed the deployment of Canadian police officers to international peace missions. At the heart of Canada’s contributions to these missions is a powerful partnership between the RCMP and 27 police agencies from across the country. Together, we provide invaluable training, mentorship and investigative expertise in places like Afghanistan, Haiti and Sudan. A safer world means a safer Canada: by helping police in troubled states fight crime in their communities, our police officers may help reduce the spread of crime to our communities. Come visit the RCMP’s International Peace Operations Branch booth to find out more about our program. |

Across Canada, Royal Roads ranked number one in active and collaborative learning (for the 5th year running), and academic challenge (for the 4th time) in the 2011 National Survey of Student Engagement. Lee Patterson, recent graduate of the MA in Disaster and Emergency Management program describes how he applied his learning. "No longer do I just knock on doors and evacuate people. I want to know where they're going, what they're going to eat, and where their families are. A few years ago I would've knocked on the door and said "Get out." Now I understand that my actions will cause a reaction. Now, I ask a lot more questions."
