Strategic Policing: The Future in the Present

The International Conference for Police & Law Enforcement Executives is now in its 6th year and continues to be a major annual event for law enforcement leaders around the world. An international roster of well respected police and law enforcement leaders shared their personal approaches to a variety of issues that police executives face in their careers. This year's theme of "Strategic Policing: The Future in the Present" focused on the importance of utilizing a strategic approach in leading an organization and in managing one's career.

Other topics included "Lessons in Sucess: A Positive Story" which provided delegates with an in-depth analysis of situations that went right and why they were successful.

Delegates at this year's conference had the opportunity to hear from speakers such as Sir Hugh Orde, President of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland; Commissioner Julian Fantino, Ontario Provincial Police; Chief Cathy Lanier, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC; Mr. Khoo Boon Hui, President of INTERPOL, France; Superintendent Warren Riley, New Orleans Police Department; Chief Constable Rudd Bik, Dutch National Police, The Netherlands; and others, making this one of the most international conferences to date.

This years conference was hosted by Chief Armand La Barge and the York Regional Police in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. The conference was the result of the partnerships of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, York Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Edmonton Police Service, Delta Police Department, Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Canadian Association of Police Boards.
